Not Sure I Can Do This

I'm feeling a little old lately.

I didn't have a birthday or anything.

It's my husband's fault.

Isn't it always his fault?

He made me get a new cell phone.

I barely new how to work my old cell phone.

The phone that I had for the last two years.

It took me one year just to get comfortable checking the voicemail.

Seriously.

For the first year, my friends knew not to leave me a message. I never checked it.

My husband would pick up my phone every once in a while and say, "did you know that you have a message here?"

"Oh?"

He would retrieve the message and listen to it and then say, "This message is a month old!"

"Oh."

Now I have to start all over with a new phone. More buttons and icons and things that I don't even know the names of. I feel old... help!

I just traded in my so-basic-and-bottomline-that-we-keep-it-in-a-box-in-the-back-of-the-storeroom-doesn't-do-anything-but-make-phonecalls phone for a Blackberry. Hold me. Hubby has one for work, and since we pay for all of the bells and whistles, he figured I might as well have a phone that can use them. I have to admit that I am starting to like it more and more as I figure out how to use it, and have found it to help a bit when it comes to multi-tasking (ie., jotting down my grocery list while waiting for preschool to let out.)

You can do it!

Aww! I feel for you. Not on the cell phone front (I don't own one), but how technology changes so quickly you feel like you're spinning your wheels. I recently got a new laptop and while in theory things shouldn't be too different, it's a whole new ball game. Technology reminds me that while that old saying "the more things change, the more they stay the same" isn't 100 percent accurate. Hang in there, Cookie!

I feel your pain. Nothing like technology to make you feel decrepit.

I just traded in my $5 pay-as-you-go cheap cell phone that barely makes phone calls to a Blackberry that texts, emails, chats, and perhaps could even cook our dinner. But I have no idea how to do it.

LOL; no help here. When we got our new phones a few years back I had to have my son put in all my numbers; I still have trouble remembering how to get into voice mail; and texting....don't get me started on my ineptness with that

enjoy it (if you can) maybe its more user friendly than your old one?

I know how you feel. I went from using a phone where I couldn't text, take pictures or even get voice mail to an iPhone. In the almost 4 years that I had my old phone, I didn't really know how to add phone numbers. The only contacts in my phone were the ones my husband put in there for me. I'm still trying to get the hang of operating the new phone, but I know how to add contacts and send text messages now.

You know... you do have two sons. I bet they could give you a tutorial in no time ;) Or they could just be your designated phone answerers.

We took a very long time to get ONE cell phone that is shared between the both of us. It is only in service if he is working at his 2 seasonable jobs.

Guess I am old fashioned - I still like the reg phone. I am the one who decides to ans or not

I love new phones, but I usually don't use all of their bells and whistles. Who has the time to read the instruction novel they come with.

I never listen to my messages, on purpose. I see that the person called so I just call them back. Good luck figuring out your new phone!

I'm shopping for a new phone...actually have been for a month. I walk into the store and end up walking out. All the phones are too involved and the basic one is just a little too basic.

Technology changes faster than we can learn it.... New TV's, New DVR's, New cameras, New iPods, and NEW Cellphones. Our contract runs out in November ---so we'll be getting a new cellphone then also. Good Luck learning a new one, Cookie!!!

Betsy

So what kind of phone did you get? He's making you "hip." What a thoughtful husband!

I am absolutely the same way! I have a four year old cell phone which in cell phone years is ancient. I know it's time to get a new one, but it sorta freaks me out.

I just found out my cell phone has a calculator in its features. My niece eye-rollingly showed me when I was looking for a calculator.

You are so funny. I am not too hip on learning new phones either. I always get teased that I don't use my iphone the way it is supposed to be used. It was pointed out that I don't have any extra applications. I use my phone to call people and recently I added facebook. I think thats pretty exciting :)
