Not now, I have a headache

I have migraines. It feels like I always have a headache. I see a neurologist regularly now. I take preventative medicine daily and I have another prescription to take whenever I get a migraine.
This morning I had my 3 month appointment with the neurologist again. I brought my calendar where I have been keeping track of my headaches hoping to find some rhyme or reason. I keep track of food, drinks, stress, loud place, bright lights etc. I also keep track of my monthly cycle and any medication taken. It's a fact that migraines are more common in women than in men. So it must be because of our hormones. Not because we are more stressed or any other reason. (Why yes, that is sarcasm you hear.)
Recently I have been getting headaches about twice a week. That's a lot! I find that I get headaches when I'm in the sun for a while or in loud places like a baseball game. My husband says I'm getting headaches more frequently because the kids are home for summer. This neurologist likes to stick with the idea that my headaches are caused by my cycle. As if I were I getting my period twice a week now. My new blog will be called "Super Flo!"... Um... No. But if that were the case, then I would recommend buying stock in Tampax.
So now I'm on some new preventative medicine. I have been feeling old for a little while and this just makes me feel more old.
This morning the kids and I spent a lot of time with doctors. After my neurologist appointment we swung by the ER for a not-so-quick visit. My 7 year old hurt his pinky toe yesterday and being the bad mom that I am, I made him go all day with a hurt toe. This morning it was still hurting, still swollen and bruised. So we had to get it x-rayed.
How did he hurt his toe? He was chasing his little brother and he ran into a wall. Yup. Genius, I know.
You might remember that my 7 year was at the ER not that long ago. He broke his arm in February. And my 5 year old was there about 6 months before that when he nearly sliced his ear off. (Don't worry, they glued it back on.) So I'm starting to recognize some of the staff there. That place is becoming our primary care physician. I mean we're there more frequently it seems. So when they took my son's weight and blood pressure I asked, "How does that compare with last time?" Maybe not the best thing to ask. I'm pretty sure CPS will be stopping by my house any minute.
Oh, and the x-rays were fine. It's just a sprain. But that doesn't stop him from complaining about it every other minute. And from sitting on the couch and having his little brother bring him things. But when he gets bored he gets up and runs around until it hurts again. That he starts whining to me again.
I wish the ER doctor would have prescribed some meds to make me feel better! I can't take much more of this!

omg--what an awful day! so glad he doesn't have a broken bone! but the migraines--that so sucks! my back went out on me this year and I've been spending lots of time with a chiropractor--not fun. I blame it on the kids. :) hang in there. xo

I'm sorry you suffer from migraines. My daughter does and she still hasn't figured out exactly what triggers them (she's 26). Sorry, but your descriptions of your kids and the whole period thing has me laughing over here. If nothing else, your sense of humor is intact and that's gotta help ease the pain just a little bit? I hope so!

I'm so sorry about the migraines; I'm glad you are trying to get them under control with the preventative medicine; ever try anything over the counter like Migrelief? I hear that has been helpful at times. Its amazing how the doctors always want to pin things on women's cycles or any women that comes in tired and not feeling good, they want to automatically diagnose that woman with depression.

sorry about your son's toe; glad it was just a strain, although I know its painful. when we lived in Montana and it was wintertime with sledding, I had my son in urgent care one day because he got hit by a sled and he thought he broke his nose (he hadn't). The next day my daughter sprained her ankle when she hit a tree with the sled instead of baling out before it hit. So we were back at urgent care. I really thought CPS might be alerted, but they weren't.

((((hugs to you))))

Migraines are so miserable! I have them, too. I've never really been able to identify a trigger.

I get migraines. I empathize with you completely. I'm lucky that I have a girl and she doesn't tend to run into things as much but then the time you spend in the ER, I spend buying her clothes all in pink

Sorry to hear you suffer from migraines. I do too but mine are rare thankfully, but when they come on - ouch! Hope they find a way to manage yours better soon!

So sorry for your head aches, my mom had migraines when I was growing up. I always felt so bad for her. Hopefully you can get it under control.
