Name Change

Did you know I was Korean? Neither did I.

Yesterday I went to my favorite Korean market, H-Mart. They just opened one in my town this spring. I signed up for the "frequent shopper card." You get a $10 gift certificate for every $1,000 that you spend! Isn't that great?! Or maybe it was $5,000. Either way, I have a little more to go. Yesterday when the cashier scanned my card, my name appeared on the screen, "Daun." My name is "Dawn." I think it's funny how those 4 letters that even make up a regular word in the English language are often messed up. "Daun" does sound much more Korean though. My last name is much longer and most people don't even attempt to pronounce it, let alone spell it. But even funnier, they got my last name spelled correctly. All 73 letters!

37 letters? Oh my! Gotta love those rewards programs. A.C. Moore has one where you have to spend $200 to earn a rewards coupon. I spend less than $10 a visit in there and don't go there frequently. It going to take me years to earn my first rewards.

Eh, what's in a name? :) And hey, my freshman year roommate was born in Korea and named Duyen. Pronounced "Dwen." Yeah, we didn't get off on the best starts when I mispronounced her name that first day. Oops.

lol at the new spelling - definitely has a Korean feel to it. 73 letters? That's almost 3x the alphabet!

no, not 73 letters for your last name??? How do you ever fit in the box on computer screens when they only allow so many letters in the field? and I thought my maiden name with 10 letters was long!!
