Does Your Kid's Choice of Music Say Anything About You as a Parent?

Last Friday my husband and I took out 2 boys to a Mariners game at Safeco Field. They started playing "Rock N Roll All Night" by Kiss on the loud speakers. My 5 year old started shouting singing along. "I want to Rock N Roll all niiiiiight. And Party Everyday!"

The lady in front of me had a little girl about the same age. The mother asked me how my son would know that song. I shrugged. "Must be from Guitar Hero." (Note: Proud Parent Moment 417)

Then "Take Me out to the Ball Game" was played over the loudspeaker. Lots of people sang along including the little girl in front of us. My 5 year sat silently in his chair.

Guess they don't put that song on Guitar Hero.

What kind of parent asks another how a child would know a popular rock song? My oldest broke out into a Rolling Stones song (You Can't Always Get What You Want) in pre-K when a friend started to cry that she wasn't getting what she wanted. The teachers were impressed that she knew so much of the song and applied it to a real life situation. We played it every time she whined, it was her anthem.

LOL! Sounds very familiar! I have 2 video game fanatics here too. You have to get him Guitar Hero World Tour with the whole band set up! It's much better than the Rock Band set! :-)

Oh you should SEE some of the songs the wee ones know. And make up. And we don't know Take Me Out To The Ball Game either. Someday, right?

LOL! That photo is awesome :) That is too funny though. It's amazing how and where kids pick up songs. My daughter was totally rocking out to a Justin Timberlake song recently.

lol! I've got eclectic music tastes as do my children. Of course, I was born long before the days of guitar hero. Music, even without video games, sort of seeps into your soul. Definitely we all have diverse soundtracks to our lives and isn't that neat?
