Starting the Day Off Right

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. My kids have no school today. We started the day off right by doing some homework that we were too lazy to do all weekend. My 7 year old is really into the "Captain Underpants" series. Part of his homework is to read any book he wants for 20 minutes. He read "Captain Underpants and the Wrath of the Wicked Wedgie Woman." (I'm so proud of him!) As he was reading he looked up and said, "This is so funny it says 'shut your pie hole.' What does that mean?"

Now I have to wonder, "why does he think it's funny if he doesn't know what it means?"

I told him that "pie hole is not-so-nice way to say mouth." He wasn't impressed and kept on reading. Another important vocabulary lesson completed.

My 5 year old started the day by vomiting in the toilet.

What a great way to start the day.

I hope your 5 year old feels better soon.

Love the title of the Captain Underpants book. Probably in another week you'll be getting a call from the teacher regarding the use of the term pie hole. My 8 year old loves to pick up on things like that and try them out at school. (FUN!)

Seriously? A book about underpants and wedgies? I'm so out of the children's book loop these days!

Yeah, pie hole will probably figure prominently for a while - lol!

Hope your son feels better soon. At least he made it to the toilet! ;)

Uh oh, hope the stomach bug leaves your house quickly.

There's nothing worse than puke first thing in the morning! Hope that was all of it.

Well--as I have said before, you will be THRILLED tomorrow when they are both back in school. Right???? ha ha

I don't envy you those days at all... AND--I wouldn't want to go through them ever again. ha

Hope nobody else gets that 'bug'
Hugs,
Betsy

Children's books have changed so much!

The vomit doesn't sound fun. At least it was in the loo and not on the carpet!
My younger daughter just tipped bright red paint all over ours.

My 5 and 7 year old children literally soaked up the Captain Underpants series this past summer. They read those books constantly. I didn't care, the children were reading.

I hope your little guy feels better soon and doesn't share his germs with anyone else.

Oy. I'm sorry. No day should ever start off with vomit.

Hope he feels better soon.

Thanks for the comment on my blog, since I am new it is weird to wonder if people are reading it and what they think...need a counter to see if anyone reads it since not everyone joins to follow.

Captain Underpants was just after my son, we did more of Hank the Cowdog...but the humor was the same and my child loved it when Hank hiked a leg on truck tires to use his "acid" that was supposed to melt the tires...nothing better than potty humor and reading combined! :)

Sorry your baby has the bug? We had a bout with it just before Christmas, pretty lousy stuff, esp with the kids.

Hope tomorrow is better! Come back and see me sometime! :)

My 1 year old started the day the same way, but he vomited all over me and himself.

We have vomiters in our house too. I think pie hole is a good vocabulary lesson LOL.
