Not A Good Idea

Today we went to a gym at an old elementary school for my second grader's basketball practice. Outside of the gym was a group of teenage boys with skateboards. Two were on the steps and one was climbing a tree next to the steps. He had a video camera in the tree. It looked like the setting for an "America's Funniest Videos" clip.

As we get closer my 5 year old noticed what was going on. He pointed at the teenagers and said loudly, "Mom, that isn't a good idea, is it?"

I had to agree with him. I hurried my kids into the gym quickly.

Next lesson will have to be "minding your own business."

This proud parent moment is brought to you by your local YMCA boys basketball association.

They have banned skateboards at places where people walk around here ---and they built them their own Skate Board Park. That is much better for all...

A good head on his shoulders, that one. You've done a good job teaching him, I think.

Isn't that something? A five year old knows something isn't a good idea and the teens? Not so much.

It sounds more like a setup for a clip for that Jackass series.

Yeah, but were there paramedics there on your way out? That would have been the icing on the cake.

Broken or missing teeth? Busted bones? Cracked skulls? No problem, as long as they get a good YouTube moment. Oy.

Oh my, well hopefully your sons words put even a little thought of what am I doing in their silly teenage brains.

Sounds like the sort of thing my teenage daughter would do. Seems they lose their brains at this age. Roll on 20.

The "minding your own business" lesson is a hard one to teach--especially since they get so much negative example time from the busybodies that love to tell women how to parent.
