My kids were off from school today and yesterday. Today is Veterans day. Happy Veterans Day! I'm not sure why the kids had off yesterday. I think the teachers were just tired of my kids.
It's hard to find things to do with the kids when there is no school. Yesterday we went to the library in the morning. My first grader did his homework. A friend came over to play in the afternoon. My kids still complained that they were bored.
This morning my kids woke up "bored." I gave them haircuts. I helped them make cookies. We ate lunch and then went to Chuck E. Cheese (I hate that place). We came home at 4:00. At 4:01 I heard, "I'm bored." I almost screamed. Instead I opened a beer and started eating the cookies.
I felt better. At least for a minute. Ok, maybe 5 minutes.
But that's not the point. The point is, why do we make cookies and the kids don't eat them? I end up eating them.
Two weeks ago my kids convinced me to buy cheetos at the grocery store. I don't usually buy these. I couldn't remember the last time I bought cheetos. So I bought them. My kids ate them once. The bag is still in the cabinet. I feel bad just throwing them away. So what do you think is happening to that bag? Well, I discovered that Cheetos goes well with beer and homemade cookies.
I don't get it! Why don't my kids finish the junk food that they make me get?
I feel silly saying, "Hey kids, you can't leave the table until you finish all of the cheetos!"
Oh well, it's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it.

Oh Cookie - I wish I was there to have beer and cookies and cheetos with you. That sounds like great fun to me.
Oh man, you're singing my tune. I was raised to clean my plate {empty the cheetos bag} or else, so I totally get the mommy cleaning up the snacks bit.
My husband brings home pastries! And chips! and desserts! And having just lost 70 pounds, I need to poke my eyes out so I don't see the tempting stuff which is everywhere calling to me.
Most of the time I can resist it. But dead is the person who stands between me and my wine bottle. I just dare them!
Great post, Cookie. Hang in there girlfriend.
For me, it's a glass of wine. And, I really hate buying my children junk food that they don't eat. I eventually end up throwing it out and never buying it again.
Hope the cookies, beer and cheetos helped.
Oh My, Cookie---IF I were there, I'd help you eat the cookies and cheetos... ha ha
Isn't it sad that kids get so bored these days?? In years past, they'd go outside and play --collect bugs, play ball, whatever---and you'd never hear them say "We're bored." I sometimes worry about kids today--and the fact that we have to entertain them 24/7.
If I were you, I'd teach them NOT to ever say that word.. Play some kind of game with them about. Make them write down all of the words they can think of out of the letters, BORED (like red).... Teach them that they need to come up with things themselves that they enjoy doing either together --or alone.
Good Luck
Hugs,
Betsy
Today was a ROUGH day for us. I hate that kids were off from school. I took my daughter to the library, but it was closed.
Confession time -- I'm delighted my three are all grown up! Oh, how those infamous words "I'm bored" still haunt my nightmares.
That's unusual about your kids not gobbling up the stuff. Anything I ever baked never had time to cool before it vanished :)
I love beer and cookies. And Cheetos. We would get along so well.
I've never allowed my kids to say "I'm bored" because it makes me so cross. I try to train the kids to entertain themselves. It doesn't always work of course, and I'm sure they do get bored but are just to sensible to say it to me!
Beer, cookies, and cheetos? I'm on my way over!
You're my kind of girl. Beer at 4 and cookies on the side. I believe yesterday at about 4 I had a glass of wine. It really makes me a better parent.
I'm with you by the way. I loathe Chuck E Cheese!
For some reason, when first openned, the food is most craved, but reclosed n saved never smells so fine!
Just a wierd fact-
Now don't be surprized if you gain too much!
Day off is great fun for the kids, even playing at home. Keep repeating "I never get bored" out loud until they realize they are just undecided what to do, not bored!
Haha. Cheetos and beer do go well together. I am a wee bit suspect about beer and cookies but I will give it a whirl :)
That is so funny they were bored 1 minute after they got home. I thought it was supposed to get easier as they got older???
