This weekend my 7 year old wanted to learn how to swing. Some of his friends can swing on the playground at school without any help and he wanted to be able to join them. We went to the park and practiced. After about 15 minutes he got the hang of it. Once he got about 5 feet high he jumped off. "That was fun" he announced.
And he did it again. Only the next time he went higher.
He got back on the swing. He went just a little bit higher still and jumped off yet again.
Uh-oh.
I have a feeling I'm going to get a call from the nurse's office this week.

I remember doing that when I was young. Now I would be petrified to. I might break something. Ha, ha.
oh oh! I think you might be right!
good for him!!! persistence and staying with it until he got it! but I'm with you; there could be an emergency room visit in your future :)
(I never liked when my son would jump off swings; but I guess that's boys for you :)
betty
Kids do seem to push themselves to the 'extreme' don't they, Cookie???? But--since I raised 3 boys, I'll tell you that "Boys will be Boys"!!!! ha
Hugs,
Betsy
Uh-oh!
Hey, I'm not a boy, but I LOVED to jump off of the swing at its height! My eldest daughter does the same...of course, I showed her how ;)
Sounds like he had fun!
Lol!
Oh I'm so glad to hear that he's just learning at seven. It seems like EVERYone around here has been swinging since they were three. Or four. And neither of the wee ones can do it, although Little Miss is starting. Go big boy! And ummm tell him to watch out for landing on that arm :)
I always thought swinging was an innate skill that all kids excel by kindergarten. We got a late bloomer here, but it sounds like he's a quick learner. Just remember to tell him to bend his knees while landing.
haha, my girls are daredevils too. hopefully you never get that call :)
